Dr Shirley Ann Jackson: A Modern Day Telecommunication Inventor

An inspiration for women in Science, Technology and Engineering.

Born in 1946, Shirley made history as the first black woman to graduate with a PhD from MIT in 1973.

She then began work at Bell Laboratories, where she completed research that led to such creations as solar cells, fiber optic cables, portable fax machines, touch-tone telephones, caller ID and call waiting.


Life is like a bunch of roses. Some sparkle like raindrops. Some fade when there's no sun. Some just fade away in time. Some dance in many colors. Some drop with hanging wings. Some make you fall in love. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Life you can be sure of, you will not get out ALIVE.(sorry about that)
