“WHEN I WAS A LITTLE BOY.” a poem September 19, 2019 (Thursday)

“(Be) grateful for the neighbor who lives down The Street,

Who wouldn’t let you have your yummy sandwich, you were planning to eat;

She took it from you – and you went hungry that day,

That nasty, ol’ tomboy (girl) who could beat you up in a fray.

(Be) grateful for the blue fly, who lighted upon your hand,

And for the scorpion, who scared you. Can you NOW understand?

That UNPLEASANT THINGS ALSO HAVE THEIR PLACE,

For instance, the scorpion made you hesitate, which kept your face,

From being in the way of that big, glass door,

Which COULD HAVE put an eye out. AND there’s some more:

The fly that lit upon your arm,

Was simply acting as an excellent ALARM,

Warning you of The Black Widow (spider) above your head;

So, you shoo-edTheFly TheSpiderFell andNeverBitYouDead.

And GLADYS, the mean girl, who lived OVER THERE,

Became your best friend, YOUR WIFE, and now you two do share,

WONDERFUL STORIES OF GLORY AND PAIN,

And now you realize, and to your children you can explain:

MORAL:

Things might be bad or annoying NOW,

ButTheyCan Turn into something really good LATER somehow.”
