Detective Steven said it was believed the deceased woman travelled from NSW about two or three weeks ago and her next of kin had been notified.

“She’s made a triple-0 phone call in regards to a prowler being inside her house,” Detective Steven said.

“The police have been on the phone to her for some 11 minutes, and during that time uniform police have arrived [and] located the deceased in another room of the house.”

The woman who alerted police was receiving counselling and support, police said.

Detective Steven said it would take “probably another 24-48 hours to process those two scenes … we’ll take whatever time it needs before we make any decision on charges”.

The identity of the woman has not been released.

Tasmania Police are urging anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time to call 131 444.
