Spiritual bypassing is like someone cleaning the house and sweeping the floor, but instead of getting rid of the junk and clutter lying around, it is pushed under the couch, under the rug, on top of the shelves, in the closest, and the shadows. All of it is still there, none of it has been removed. While the house may look tidier, it still contains the junk.
Spiritual bypassing is like if you have a leaky roof and the water goes down into the ceiling and ruins the drywall. Instead of fixing the leak and replacing the drywall, one just patches a new piece of drywall over the damaged one. Eventual that one too becomes damaged by water, so one repairs another part over that second damaged one. Eventually the whole ceiling and wall caves in, along with the roof.
Spiritual bypassing is an ignoring of current states arising that have not been faced, observed, examined, investigated, and exposed. While there is nothing wrong with positive thinking, vision boards, and similar practices and some people find them to be very helpful tools, if someone is only going around practicing positive thinking, creating vision boards, and the like without becoming present, observing Direct Experience, and/or doing some form of Self-inquiry, then it is like applying a bandaid over an infected wound without treating and removing the infection.
Out of Awakening arises compassion, because it is realized that everything is actually One Thing, One Movement. If I heart my finger, then I care for it and help it heal. Imagine that everything in Life is Life. There is no actual duality. There is no actual separation. If someone or something is in need of attention then it can be compared to a hurt body part of the Whole that is in need of attention, kindness, and love. This is compassion.
