A person who survives, especially a person remaining alive after an event in which others have died, is known as a survivor yet we say that there are no dementia survivors. I disagree because after living with Alzheimer’s for almost 25 years, I have survived everything that my dementia has thrown at me.

I guess it boils down to which side of the fence you are sitting on. Many think that there will be no survivors until a cure is found and stands by the theory there are no dementia survivors. A cure is a dream we all dream about but still is not within our reach.

I would rather be called a survivor of dementia someone that suffers from dementia. I want to walk in the End Alzheimer’s walk carrying a white flower indicating that I am a dementia survivor and living beyond my diagnosis.
