What an absolute farce !
Why is our system so lenient on murders involving domestic partners?

There is a 4 yr old little boy out there who has lost both of his parents, after watching his Mumma throw a knife at his Daddy and kill him. He has to live with that for the rest of his life.

A Brisbane woman who was jailed for stabbing her husband to death because she was “angry and annoyed” he got home late from work, could be out of jail by Christmas.

Katie Anne Castel, 38, admitted killing her husband Jarred Castel by throwing a 20-centimetre kitchen knife which hit him in the chest.

She first scratched her arm twice with the kitchen knife blade, saying she wanted to kill herself. According to reports her arms did not show evidence of a serious suicide attempt.

She then threw the knife, hitting Mr Castel in the chest. He died from blood loss caused by the 4cm-deep wound.

Ms Castel’s action was “deliberate and very dangerous”, a Brisbane judge said in sentencing her to nine years’ jail in March last year.

However Appeal Court Justice Debra Mullins noted Ms Castel’s apparent and immediate remorse and that she pleaded guilty.

She said the jail sentence without any mitigation was manifestly excessive in the circumstances.

What about the fact that this murder occurred in front of a 4 year old child !

The successful appeal means Castel will be eligible for parole on December 20 after serving a third – rather than half – of her manslaughter sentence. On that date it will be exactly three years since Mr Castel was fatally stabbed.

Ms Castel was charged with the domestic violence offence of manslaughter.

This decision was made as the nation marked National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day.

We can’t help but wonder if Judge Mullins knew this and went ahead and slashed the sentence of a domestic violence murderer anyway ?

Why slash her sentence by a third ?
Because she said she was sorry ?

When there is no chance of being found innocent, most offenders say they’re sorry and enter a guilty plea, because they don’t want to lose the significant sentence reduction !
That is not a reason for a further reduction in sentence.

The killing of Jarred Castel is a terrible loss, especially for his family and friends and our thoughts go out to them.

Our thoughts and love are also with Jarred’s little boy, so innocent and now forever scarred after watching mummy throw the knife at daddy.
No child should ever have to live with that, ever !

Our appeals court needs to stop being so easily swayed by murderers apologies. Of course they will tell you they’re sorry, they are sorry….. they’re in prison and they want out !

Life is like a bunch of roses. Some sparkle like raindrops. Some fade when there's no sun. Some just fade away in time. Some dance in many colors. Some drop with hanging wings. Some make you fall in love. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Life you can be sure of, you will not get out ALIVE.(sorry about that)
