A second crime scene has been established at that property.
Three children under the age of nine were present at the house where the woman was found and have been taken into care.
Detective Inspector Ahearn said the entire area would be “locked down” so police could talk to neighbours and establish if any evidence had been as taken from the property.
“Our forensic specialists are on scene and the termination of that scene is going to take some time,” he said.
Detective Inspector Ahearn said the man was in a serious condition at the Gold Coast University Hospital. He was later transferred to the burns unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Detective Inspector Ahearn said the woman had also sustained burns.
“I can’t go into too much detail about that [the woman’s injuries] other than that she has burns. It was evident that she had burn injuries when the responding officers got to the scene.”
Detective Inspector Ahearn said officers were still working to identify the woman.
“It’s obviously a very confronting scene, a female person deceased,” he said. An autopsy will be conducted on Wednesday.
Langer Place resident Bryan Coates said the man was found at his neighbour’s property, after she had left for work.
“The dogs were barking … the police came,” he said.
“We saw a stretcher go into the house from the ambos [vehicle]. Half an hour or more later we saw it come out.
“We saw a bigger person on the stretcher with blankets on the lower part and saw the left arm quite heavily bandaged.
“My wife saw a bit of blood.”
Mr Coates said paramedics worked on the man for over half an hour in the back of the ambulance before taking him to hospital.
He said another neighbour had come across the man on her morning walk, before he was located by police.
