Letter To My Husband

The pupa is breaking slowly
From the protective chrysalis
Peeping out tentatively
In a hurry to assume the world
Testing the air with antennae
Is the emerging butterfly.

Expecting any day
To break loose of its confines
That until then defined
Its existence on earth,
In total darkness
Without mirth
Though expectant
And recalcitrant
At the same time.

It was then
A bird alighted
Nearby inquisitive
Pecked to test
A probing gesture.

The opening chrysalis
With one antenna lost
Withdrew almost
Into its cozy shell
And feeling like hell
Closed the door
Right behind her

A moment of terror
In a sense of horror
Threw away the key
To remain inside
For all eternity. ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿฆ‹

Butterflies are a sign from Heaven, sending you Hugs and Kisses ๐Ÿ˜‡
Letter To My Husband

The Greatest Love of all โšœโšœโšœ

In the worst hour of the worst season
of the worst year of a whole people
a man set out from the workhouse with his wife.
He was walking-they were both walking-north.

She was sick with famine fever and could not keep up.
He lifted her and put her on his back.
He walked like that west and north.
Until at nightfall under freezing stars they arrived.

In the morning they were both found dead.
Of cold. Of hunger. Of the toxins of a whole history.
But her feet were held against his breastbone.
The last heat of his flesh was his last gift to her.

Let no love poem ever come to this threshold.
There is no place here for the inexact
praise of the easy graces and sensuality of the body.
There is only time for this merciless inventory:

Their death together in the winter of 1847.
Also what they suffered. How they lived.
And what there is between a man and a woman.
And in which darkness it can best be proved.

Letter To My Husband

Letter to my husband ~

Music I heard with you was more than music, And bread I broke with you was more than bread; Now that I am without you, all is desolate; All that was once so beautiful is dead. Your hands once touched this table and this silver, And I have seen your fingers hold this glass. These things do not remember you, beloved, And yet your touch upon them will not pass. For it was in my heart that you moved among them, And blessed them with your hands and with your eyes; And in my heart they will remember always, โ€”They knew you once, O beautiful and wise.

Please take my hand, come walk with me

I will show you the way, and let you see

How love and happiness will make you feel

And make your life feel so unreal

I will hold you tight

All through the night

And never let you out of my vision

For you belong to me

If you give me your permission my love

For all the world to see
