BELARUS: Has closed its border to Ukraine over coup claim and the US government is aware of the decision of the Belarusian authorities to close the border with Ukraine and promises to hold the government of President Alexander Lukashenko accountable for its actions. This was announced on Friday by a senior official from the administration of US President Joe Biden, Reuters reports.

Lukashenko on Friday ordered the full closure of the country’s border with Ukraine, seeking to block what he called an inflow of weapons to coup-plotters detected by his security services.
“A huge amount of weapons comes from Ukraine to Belarus. That’s why I instructed border guards to completely close the border with Ukraine,” Lukashenko said.
As we reported earlier, on May 23, the founder of the largest opposition telegram channel of Belarus NEXTA, journalist Roman Protasevich, was detained in Minsk.
The U.S. and a number of the EU countries demand to stop the flights over Belarus, including the flights to the country itself.
On May 26, Ukraine also announced the termination of flights to Belarus.
Ukraine denied interfering in Belarus’s domestic affairs and said closing the 1,084-km (674-mile) border would make its people “suffer”.
Belarus shares a border with Ukraine in the south. It borders Poland and Lithuania in the west, Latvia in the north, and Russia in the east.
The move deepens a standoff between Belarus and outside powers.
In May his government prompted international outrage when it forced a Ryanair flight to land and arrested of a government critic who was onboard.
In return, Western countries imposed sanctions on Belarus.
