#AceNewsReport – July.15: Ezzedine Omar, 38, was arrested at his Liverpool home, where detectives seized car parts and a black Audi this afternoon: He is facing 17 charges, including murder, eight counts of deal with proceeds of crime, as well as drug and driving offences: Police will allege Mr Omar organised the hit on the father but did not pull the trigger.
#AceDailyNews says two-brothers charged over murder of underworld murder of Mejid Hamzy, arrest two as heavily armed police conducted raids across Sydney and Wollongong at Peakhurst, Bringelly, Helensburgh and Liverpool: Sources have told the ABC the men have links to rival family the Alameddines, who remain in an ongoing feud with the Hamzys.
Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor said investigators were still looking for the shooter: “We have a number of lines of inquiry and they can expect a knock at the door sooner rather than later,” he said: We are urging anyone with information about the identity of these shooters to come forward and assist: “ We have a number of tricks up our sleeve — we are using technology and skills we have developed over the years.”
Mohammed Omar, 44, was arrested at a home in Croydon and is accused of hiding one of the getaway cars used in the attack — a white BMW: He was charged with six offences, including deal with proceeds of crime, and drug offences.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Darren Bennett said there was zero-tolerance for any behaviour that puts lives at risk.
“The public should feel safer in the knowledge that we cleared another matter up,” he said.
Mr Hamzy, 44, was gunned down on Simmat Avenue outside his Condell Park home at 7:30am on October 19 last year.
Police only recently released CCTV vision of three vehicles travelling in convoy before and after the shooting, in an attempt to catch his killers.
They included a Toyota, a Mercedes and a white BMW.
Hours before Mr Hamzy was found lying on the footpath, Rifat Alameddine’s home at Merrylands was sprayed with bullets.
Mr Hamzy’s death fuelled tensions between the rival underworld families, triggering a revamp of Strike Force Raptor, the state’s anti-bikie squad.
Mejid Hamzy was the brother of notorious gang leader Bassam Hamzy, who is serving time for murder at Goulburn Supermax Jail.
Their cousin, Bilal Hamze, was farewelled at Lakemba Mosque last month after he was shot dead outside a Japanese restaurant in Sydney’s CBD.
His killers remain on the run.
The Omar brothers have been refused bail and are expected to face Liverpool court on Thursday.
