So much for justice for her babies.

Make no mistake about it, this woman is no mother !

A mother who killed three of her children after deliberately plunging her car into a lake has had her original jail term reduced after Australia’s highest court ordered she be resentenced.

Akon Guode will now spend 18 years behind bars, and not 26 years, for killing her twins Hangar and Mandit and her toddler, Bol, when she drove into a lake at Wyndham Vale in Melbourne’s west while in the grips of a deep depression in April 2015.

It brings an end to a complex legal saga which went all the way to the High Court in Canberra. Guode was in 2018 jailed for more than 26 years after pleading guilty to the murder of her twins, Hangar and Mandit, the infanticide of her toddler, Bol, and the attempted murder of her daughter, Aluel.

She was meant to spend at least 20 years behind bars, but about a year later, she appealed and was resentenced to 18 years’ jail, with a non-parole period of 14 years. Victorian prosecutors took the case to the High Court, arguing the sentence was inadequate.

In March this year, a majority of High Court judges found the Victorian appeal judges had “erred” by taking into account an irrelevant factor, quashing the sentence and sending the case back to the Court of Appeal to be reheard.

On Wednesday, after re-hearing the matter recently, the Court of Appeal found that the original 26-year sentence that Guode received on her murder charges was “manifestly excessive”.

“Sentences of this order are generally reserved for cases unattended by powerful mitigating features of the kind that exist in this case,” they said.

“In our opinion, giving weight to the applicant’s mental condition … required significantly more lenient sentences to have been imposed by the judge on each of the murder charges,” they said.

The court has previously heard that Guode had led an “extraordinarily difficult life” and was exposed to profound trauma during Sudan’s civil war, where she witnessed her husband being murdered, and was raped until she was unconscious.

Guode will now spend 18 years behind bars and will be eligible for parole after 14 years. The court heard that Guode had been assaulted in prison and was likely to remain in protective custody. She is likely to be deported from Australia after she is released.

While we at FACAA understand that she has lived a hard life, why did her children have to die ? They weren’t the ones who murdered her husband in the Sudanese civil war, they were absolutely and totally innocent and all too often it is them who are murdered even though they are totally innocent and blame free.

How many times have you seen a couple fighting and it’s the children who die ?

How many times have you seen a painful breakup result in children being murdered ?

Now we are seeing children being murdered because of the hard life of their mother.

Mental health issues are VERY real but if you have a mental health problem seek help, get counselling get psychiatric help do something ANYTHING that doesn’t involve MURDERING CHILDREN !

Children are not only totally innocent but they are also entirely vulnerable, they have no possible way of defending themselves against an adult attack and nor should they !

They are children ! they are INNOCENT ! they have done nothing wrong what so ever !

No matter what you are going through DO NOT KILL YOUR CHILDREN !
