“I CARE.” a poem November 11, 2019 (Veteran’s Day) MONDAY.

I think I’M CURED of saying THAT;
Saying: “I don’t give a [blank]” because I’ve been at,
THE RECEIVING END on one too many occasions,
Hearing SAID PHRASE from even intimate relations.

I USED TO proudly DECLARE:
“I don’t give a [blank],”
Thinking that it was cool or that I was “being frank,”
But, I gotta tell you: “IF YOU HEAR ‘IT’ OFTEN,
YOU JUST WANNA CRAWL BACK INTO YOUR COFFIN,
Saying: ‘I CARE ABOUT HAVING TO HEAR SAID PHRASE,
BECAUSE I DON’T WANT OTHERS TO HAVE TO LISTEN TO ME RAISE,
IT’S SAD REFRAIN because I LOVE MY FAMILY; I DO,
AND I CARE WHAT I MIGHT PUT THEM THROUGH,”
AND I THINK LIFE IS TOUGH ENOUGH,

π
WITHOUT HAVING to LISTEN to CLOSE RELATIONS, WHO, “OFF THE CUFF,”
SAY “MEAN THINGS,” EVEN IF THEY’RE TRUE.
So, I do CARE,
What I “bounce off your ears,”
I REALLY DO.
