“A EULOGY OR APOLOGY TO ROACH FAMILIES HERE AND EVERYWHERE!” a poem May 30, 2019 [Thursday]

Prelude: It’s not like they bite! or they sting! – – – But some can fly all around! It’s quite the thing! – – – They’re actually shy! and hide from view, – – – And they really don’t mean – to bother you! – – – But there’s just something about the roach, I can’t put my finger on! – – – &, of course, if-you-toss-a-shoe-at-’em, in a moment! They’re gone! 🙂

There’s something about cockroaches – that just upsets me,
But WHO-AM-I to judge roaches? The-ones-here-I-see?

At about 4 A. M., when I go for a warm drink,
There may be some roaches – scurrying in the sink!

Why can’t I love roaches, like I love the sparrow? or the fox?
Or a cute, little poodle? or a mild case of chicken pox?

After all! Aren’t cockroaches people too? (pause)
Don’t they deserve – to smell up my drawers – and scurry, as they do?

But I am upset – when I turn on the light,
And-that-they-can-run-1000 m.p.h. – [sort-a]-puts-me-in-a-fright!

For some reason, I’M CRAZY! I know, I wanna hit ’em with a shoe,
Depriving some cockroach mum – of her roach-son named Boo!

Yet, when I knock ’em, I just want-them out-side,
And – if I hurt them much – – – – Well, one night, I just cried,
And I said, “Dang! Why didn’t you just GIVE UP?
Why didn’t you – just stay-put in the cup,
And-let-me-put-you-outside, since-I-don’t-recall-inviting-you-here!
And now you’re probably fatally wounded, and I feel a tear,
Being shed – for your roach-y life, as your little antennae shake!”

LIFE IS CRUEL! and-I’m cruel TOO – dang! for Goodness’ sake!

Why can’t I just – ACCEPT THINGS! on this SPHERE OF DEATH?
No wonder so many people like to do “meth,”
And smoke “pot!” and cry and sleep!
THIS PLACE! THIS PLACE! Don’t-you-just-wanna-weep?
