“THE WINNING HAND!” a poem a.k.a.: “Always Compromised Of Hopeful Cards!” a.k.a.: “You Can Invite Hope And Patience To The Card Table – OR – Disappointment And Worry! Who Do You Wanna Have As Your Partner(s)?” October 18, 2018 – Thor’s Day
You’re feelin’ ILL!? (Well!) Just-DON’T-feel-“down!”
Things SEEM HARD? Let’s NOT frown!
Things ARE FINE; smile, Mrs. Curvy!
THE ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE – IS WORTH A POT O’ GOLD,
For life might have uncertainties, but THIS MUCH we are told:
Ancient Wise Men, since-time-began,
Say: “Whatever happens – in any clan,
Keep-your-spirits-UP – things’ll-always-TURN,
For, if you’re grateful, THIS IS WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
Whatever happens – is just a lesson;
JUST LEARN IT EASY!”
[No, I’m NOT messin’!]
Colds are easier – gone in a flash!
Smile at HARDSHIP! Greet-it and say:
“Thanks for THE LESSON!” (It’s softer right away!)
ALL LIFE CAN BE A BLESSING! Your “adversaries” too!
Make-your-lessons HAPPY – Don’t be so “blue!”
So, LIFE is like a game of chance – and every card’s a “winner,”
IF you take ‘em as they’re dealt! Remember: Yul Brynner?
He was a lowly gypsy boy, but kept a hopeful mind,
And, in-time he was a movie star, and so – he often dined,
With diplomats and presidents and always he was wise,
To take his life with ease and hope – Just try it on for size!
And “good” ol’ JOB,* (he)-lost-everything, but it came back TEN FOLD!
And Rubin Carter** was accused! Yet he didn’t scold;
He simply said: “IF I’ve done wrong! – We will know in time!”
And-he was exonerated (pause) for-he’d-done no crime.
Sometimes the (real) “crime” is getting down and mad,
Not keeping up good humor, for life can be so sad,
But there are still the “silver linings” (pause) within every (“bad”) cloud,
When you seem-to-be assailed, don’t-be-like-the-”crowd,”
Which reacts with trepidation, when it spots “bad news,”
When ANY NEWS IS GOOD NEWS, IF YOU DON’T INVITE “THE BLUES,”
To come – when it is cloudy- and things-are blowing hard:
YOUR “SHOWIN’ HAND” IS SURE TO CHANGE – WHEN YOU-PICK-(UP) YOUR NEXT CARD,
And the-next-card(s) within the deck – are called “the cards of hope,”
All 52*** – So, COME, My Queenie!**** Let-us-go-elope!!
* – from The Bible
** – a famous boxer who was falsely accused of crimes
*** – The number of cards in a standard card deck – They can all be your friends!
**** – The Queen of Hearts!
