HEAVENLY MERIT!” a poem September 8, 2018 (Saturday)
“Life! It is meaningless – and, mostly, so trite!”
A friend said to me, one Saturday night,
And I simply agreed, ‘cause she wanted to fight,
And argue and argue, ‘til the sweet morning light!
But, you-know! She’s quite right! (pause)
LIFE I S TRITE, WITHOUT MEANING,
U N L E S S you attach – something-special – to your scheming!
IF we-don’t-attach-meaning – to the-events of the day,
They will-NOT kiss our memory – and will-soon fade away,
BUT – IF-we see wonder and magic herein,
Our lives glow with substance, and we’re-free from all “sin,”
Free – from the SIN OF JUST MOPING AROUND,
And-complaining of boredom – of where we are bound,
Disgruntled by-the-options of this human condition;
Reluctant to take up a banner or mission!
LET’S COVET SOME MAGIC, AS WE DRIFT ALONG,
And open our eyes! and sing us THIS SONG:
I sing of how-glorious is a sunshiny day; I sing of The Pretty Girls, who live down the way; I sing, as the wind and the rain touch my face; I sing of your satin & frilly, white lace, As it cascades down shoulders, so supple & tan;
I SING OF THE LIMITLESS OPTIONS OF MAN!
Now! IF you sing well – with passion and love,
The heavens will open – and some GOD above,
Will-shower-you-with-blessings – that you can’t contain,
Such joy and contentment shall come with this rain,
As it touches your “triteness,” as others might see’t,
BUT! Welling within you? (pause)
‘Tis HEAVENLY MERIT! 🙂
