10 year old Amber Yoon, who was born with a heart condition. Has been hung by a skipping rope in a shocking school bullying incident.

The Perth mother of a 10-year-old girl who was allegedly hung from a tree with a skipping rope around her neck by a fellow student, says her daughter has been left traumatised by the ordeal.

Details of the alleged incident first emerged on Wednesday when Belinda Yoon (pictured with Amber) posted about it on Facebook. Mrs Yoon claims her daughter Amber’s toes were barely scraping the ground after she was strung up on a tree with a skipping rope tied around her neck by another student at Queen of Apostles Catholic School in Riverton.

She claims she was only alive because a teacher saw what had happened. But she also hit out at the school claiming they failed to inform her of the incident or provide medical treatment for her daughter.

“We have been having issues with Amber being bullied and causing major issues with psychological anxiety we have had many meetings with the school over the past few weeks and they were well aware,” Ms Yoon wrote.

“Friday this same girl wrapped a skipping rope around her neck and hung her by a tree her toes scraping the ground and she couldn’t breathe.

“The only reason she’s alive is a teacher ran over and got her down. The school never notified me or got her medical attention instead I found out after school when she came home, burst into tears and told me.
“She was made to sit in the office all afternoon with no one to console her and write a statement.”

The incident is being investigated by WA Police. Catholic Education Western Australia is also understood to be liaising with police.

Sadly everything in this story, we have heard before. Bullying IS child abuse, the only difference is there is hope for the perpetrators. They CAN get help and CAN be rehabilitated.

At FACAA we have a revolutionary anti bullying program developed with the help of NSW Police and our ambassador Martin “The SituAsian” Nguyen. This program works on a very simple premise, no child is born bad and no child wakes up and thinks “I’m going to be a bully and make another child’s life hell today” .

Yes, the children in this story went WAY too far and poor Amber certainly did not even slightly deserve what was done to her, school should be a safe place, a place to learn, not a place of fear.
We at FACAA believe the child or children involved in harming Amber can be helped, they must be helped.
If they are attempting to hang kids at school, what’s happening in their lives to make them so violent ?

Little Amber has already endured so much ! She was born with several medical conditions, one of which is a genetic heart defect which has seen her frequently in hospital (pictured) . So for her to go through more preventable trauma at school is just totally unacceptable and for it to have had the possibility of ending her little life … that is just unfathomable and steps must be taken to prevent it ever happening again.

FACAA has seen time and time again in our work with the “Take a stance” program, schools unwilling to be proactive because they fear being labelled as the school with a bullying problem. We get emails and inboxes from parents begging us to help their children’s school. We ring the school and say “Hey we have this great program we can offer it to you for free as everyone involved is a volunteer” … the school hits us back with “No thank you, we don’t have a bullying problem and please tell us who told you we did”

This was a standard response when we were trying to get the program off the ground from the schools “We do not have a bullying problem”…. “This school has no bullying” … “Bullying is not an issue at our school” … Of course we all know that’s simply not true because every school has an issue with bullying.

Our “Take a stance’ program would help Queen of Apostles Catholic School in Riverton greatly ! We know this, but sadly we can only go where we are invited and there are many schools waiting, who want our help.

Amber, FACAA have several schools in your area that would be happy to teach you martial arts, fully sponsored by FACAA under our Phoenix program. Please have mum contact us so we can organize it for you.

You are not only a survivor of your heart condition but you are also a survivor of child abuse ! Make no mistake about it, you are a warrior and a survivor and FACAA would love to help make you stronger like the Phoenix our program is named after !

Bullying IS child abuse and like all forms of child abuse FACAA will stop it ! if it is with our Take A Stance prevention program or our Phoenix survivor’s healing program we will end bullying one survivor, or one school at a time !
