“Wonderful Tonight-Eric Clapton 💙💙

lyrics”

“I CAN’T TELL!” a poem. a.k.a.: “OTHER THINGS!” from the series: “Poems of Desperation & Uncertainty!” 04/06/2018.

{I can’t tell – over-the-phone,

IF you are sincere –

I can hear, BUT I can’t see –

Your tears are not so “clear!”

I can’t know – even though,

You say – my name aloud,

Even-if A THOUSAND TIMES,

(’cause) Repetition-can-be-so-“proud!”

The phone is quite imperfect, as a loving tool,

(for) I must see your eyes and mouth, lest I would be a fool,

To believe just-what-I-hear, When-I-can’t-see-or-smell –

It’s-just-a-phone, I’m-still-alone: “HOW, DEAR- CAN I TELL,

IF – YOUR-LOVE IS ‘REAL,’ IF YOUR WORDS ARE TRUE –

I SHOULD MAYBE JUST HANG UP, JUST HANG UP ON YOU!”}

[“You’re-so-right, my loving fey, to be quite, quite suspicious,

Of-my-sentiments-on-the-phone, I-might-just-be-malicious,

And “playing-you-For-a-fool,” PRAY – Tell, How to tell?!

IF-my-love’s-sincere-or-not, Or IF it’s just some Hell!

Well, well, my Love, consider THIS, as you grasp your phone,

Just how long must I talk before it’s NOT a “con?”

And – how-much-utterance-of-your-blessed-name-

Must I say, Before,

I tame your sweet “mis-trusting” – tamed for evermore!?

Perhaps I’ve said your “mantra” a thousand, thousand times,

And-we’ve-been-on-daily-calls –

I’ve writ 10,000 rhymes!*

And-I-have-sent-you-presents

And-painted your sweet face,

To line my bedroom with your “pics”

Of love – and gorgeous GRACE!

And we’ve both made some videos, until we’ve broke(n) our phones,

And we’ve heard one another sleep, with snoring and some moans!

Perhaps you’re right,

Phone calls don’t tell

A perfect, pictured story,

But OTHER THINGS, along with calls, Can highlight all this glory! 🙂
